The Transamerica Pyramid, designed by William Pereira and built in 1972.This was the former site of the Montgomery Block, a four-story brick structure erected in 1853 by Henry W. Halleck, as a luxurious office building. It housed the Bank Exchange Saloon where a destined--to-become-famous drink by the name of "Pisco Punch" was served.
Patina green and to the right, is the Sentinel Building (landmark #33), designed by Salfield and Kohlberg, was under construction during the 1906 earthquake and suffered no damage. Plans to locate offices here by Abraham "Boss" Reuf were interrupted in 1907 by the graft prosectutions. His plans were not realized until his release from San Quentin in 1915. Current owner, Francis Ford Coppola, maintains offices here.
